Ilya Abelsky, born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), has brought the artistry of beautiful miniature jewelry egg design to the United States, where he now designs some of the most beautiful jewelry eggs ever created. Highly prized by collectors, these astonishing miniatures are truly works of art. Inspired by the legendary Carl Fabergé, Ilya Abelsky's creations are designed to be worn as pendants, pins or charms.
In creating these all new designs Abelsky started with beautifully faceted crystal eggs. Then each egg was enrobed in highly detailed designs created in sterling silver. Next the metal designs are gilded in 24 karat gold and hand enameled with several layers of multicolored enamel. This technique of enameling is an extremely delicate and highly labor intensive, involving hand application of translucent colored enamel and then firing the enamel at very high temperatures.
To finish these magnificent designs, each egg was embellished with accents of genuine Swarovski crystals. Each egg requires hours of work by highly trained Russian craftsmen working under the watchful eye of Mr. Abelsky.
Pictured at left you can see a close-up view of the detail and workmanship used in the creation of every egg. These new crystal eggs are slightly larger than earlier designs, measuring about 1¼ inch in length.
